FAQ

Welcome to A. Dugast's FAQ page. Here you can find questions and answers in these categories:

GENERAL

What is the lead time when I order ?

Lead time depends on when you order and our stock at that moment. We always try to keep a minimum stock, but unfortunately this is not always possible. Normally we do have a stock of nearly all cotton tyres.
We confirm your order and lead time within one working day. If the lead time is too long, you can change or cancel the order without any problem.

How can I pay ?

You can pay with a bank transfer or with PayPal after we have confirmed your order.

Is transport included in the price ?

This depends on the country we need to ship to:

  • Transport to Germany is included if you order at least € 99,-.

  • Transport to the UK, Austria, Luxemburg, France and Denmark is included if you order at least € 112,-.

  • Transport to another country is included if you order at least € 220,-.

You will see the exact transport cost while ordering.

Can I order only aquasure ?

No, we can sell aquasure only together with tubular tyres, unless you can mail us a proof that you recently bought Dugast tubular tyres elsewhere.

I have a bike shop and I would like to sell Dugast tyres. Is this possible?

Yes, of course. Please send us an e-mail with your company details: name, address, phone number, e-mail address and VAT-number.

FAQ: FAQ

CROSS

Which width can I use?

The width of the tyre that you use depends on your weight. We advise:

  • < 50 kg: 30 mm

  • < 85 kg: 32 mm

  • > 85 kg: 34 mm

The width also depends on your personal preference and the course.

What is the difference between cotton and Flying Doctor?

The Flying doctor casing makes it possible that you don’t get the feeling that your tyre rolls off the rim, which allows you to take the curves faster with a low tyre pressure. The flying doctor casing also offers you a better protection against flats because of stones or glass and the casing is 10 g lighter as the normal cotton casing.

Can you repair cyclocross tyres?

Yes, that’s possible, but we only repair Dugast tyres. We can repair them in a few ways:

  • Glue the inner tube – only for small holes and only if the casing is still good and not too old.

€ 5,50 – VAT and transport not included.

  • New inner tube – only if the casing is still good and not too old.

€ 16 – VAT and transport not included.

FAQ: FAQ

How to pull old treads off the casing?

1.     Put the tyre for at least 3 hours at room temperature (at least 20˚) so that it becomes very supple.

2.     Take with your nail the side of the tread off the casing until it’s off for +/- 0,5 cm.

3.     Take the part that is loose and pull it more off the casing for about 5 cm at that side.

4.     Push slowly with your thumb under the tread so that you come out at the other side of the tread.

5.     Put the tread over your thumb and pull it off the casing piece by piece (1-2 cm at once) until the total tread is loose.

6.     Undo the tread of loose pieces of glue.

!! don’t use any aggressive liquids to pull off the glue otherwise the tread cannot be used anymore !!

When can I use which type of tyre?

  • Typhoon: This is an allround tyre that can be used on nearly all type of course, both wet and dry.

  • Pipistrello: on a dry or sandy course.

  • Rhino: on a muddy or slippery course.

  • Pipisquallo : on a dry course, grass or sand, where you need a little more grip in the curves

  • Small Bird: on a slippery course, but no deep mud

MOUNTAIN BIKE

Can I have the tread of a clincher tyre glued on Dugast casing?

Yes, that is possible. You need to send the complete clincher tyre to A. Dugast – Textielstraat 46 – 7575 CA Oldenzaal – Netherlands. Please add a little note to the box with your name, contact details (address, e-mail and phone number) and your order. Not all clincher treads can be put on a tubular tyre, so please contact us before shipping anything.

How can I compare the width of the Dugast tubular tyres to the width in inches of the traditional clincher tyres?

  • 45 mm = 1.9 – 2.0: this depends on the manufacturer
47 mm = 2.1 – this can also vary according to the manufacturer

Can I put liquid (latex) in the tubular tyres?

As a preventive: No, there is a risk that if you don’t use the tyres for a while, the sides of the inner tube glue together.

To repair: Yes, Joe's Super Sealant can repair small flats. Most other products don’t work or haven’t been tested by us.

Can a flat MTB tubular tyre be repaired?

Yes, if the casing is still good, we can place a new inner tube. The price for this repair is EUR 13,50 plus VAT and transport. If you put a liquid (latex) in the inner tube, it might not be possible to repair.

Can I have a used MTB tread glued on a new casing?

Yes, that is possible but only if you send us just the tread.

FAQ: FAQ

Track

Diamond or Latex?

  • The diamond tread is an excellent tread for tactical races, where rolling resistant is less important, like for example races behind a derny or the points race.

  • The latex tread is an excellent tread for races in which every second counts, like for example the keirin and the sprint.

Cotton or silk?

  • The silk tyres will give you more pleasure because of the lower rolling resistance.

  • The cotton tyres give less risks on a puncture than the silk tyre.

What is the lifetime of the track tyres?

The life time of the tyres always refer to the lifetime of the tread.

  • The lifetime of the diamond tread is about 2000 km, if the tubular is used on a good track.

  • The lifetime of the latex tread is at least 350 – 400 km, if the tubular is used on a smooth track. On a concrete track the lifetime is very low.

How long are the valves of the track tyres?

All road tyres have a removable valve of 38 mm. If you would like to have a longer valve, you can add a valve extender to your order. Our valve extenders are 25 mm long and are compatible with our road, cross and track tyres.

FAQ: FAQ

ROAD

When and why using the Paris Roubaix tyres?

  • The Paris Roubaix tyre is the ideal tyre to use in the spring season. The reason is that the weather conditions are often uncertain. The Paris Roubaix tyre is specially developed to use in less good weather conditions.

  • Because of the higher volume of the tyre, you can use it with less tyre pressure. The advantage of this is that, because of the larger tyre, you have less risk to slip on an rough surface or on small stones on the road.

  • A lot of the actual carbon rims are larger than 21,5 mm. With these rims you’ll get an excellent comfort using a 23 mm tyre or larger. This tyre won’t give you a higher rolling resistance, but will give you a higher speed using the same resistance.

Cotton or silk?

  • The silk tyres will give you more pleasure because of the lower rolling resistance.

  • The cotton tyres give less risks on a puncture than the silk tyre.

When to use which width?

  • 22 mm - on a nice, smooth road when the weather is dry. You need to make sure that the rim isn’t wider than the tyre.

  • 23 – 24 mm: an allround tyre, that fits in nearly every frame.

  • 25 mm: this will give you more comfort, but doesn’t fit in every frame.

  • 27 mm: on a bad road or in bad weather conditions.

When using Speed Diamond Silk or cotton tyres?

  • Only on good, smooth roads.

  • You can make the difference with the higher pressure.

  • This is the perfect tyre for time trials when the weather is good.

What is the lifetime of the road tyres?

The life time of the tyres always refer to the lifetime of the tread.

  • Strada cotton or Silk: 2000 – 2500 km

  • Paris Roubaix Cotton or silk: 3000 – 3500 km

  • Speed Diamond cotton or Silk: 700 – 800 km

How long are the valves of the road tyres?

All road tyres have a removable valve of 38 mm. If you would like to have a longer valve, you can add a valve extender to your order. Our valve extenders are 25 mm long and are compatible with our road, cross and track tyres.
