Repair of Dugast tyres, what are the possibilities?

Because all our tyres are made from natural products, thorough maintenance is necessary. We, therefore, recommend cleaning the tyres after every bike ride. However, it can happen that components of the tyres, such as the casing, break due to various reasons. Can these tyres be repaired? Yes, very often that's possible! In this blog post, we will divide a tyre into different sections and explain per part which repairs are possible.

Note: We recommend that you send cyclocross tyres that need repair to us between February and July so that the repair can be performed before the start of the season!

Casing
If it turns out that the tyre can no longer be used because the quality of the casing is no longer good, but the tread is still in good condition, it is possible to replace the casing. If you send us the used treads, we can make you a new tyre with your old tread. Because we offer the carcass in different options and with different additions (neoprene coating, color), there is no fixed price for these repairs. By selecting the necessary options for our product"Cross repair" you can get a price indication for the repair.

If you choose this option you can send your old treads, together with a small letter (which contains your name, address, phone number and e-mail address and the specifications of the tyres) to the following address:

A. Dugast Textielstraat 46 NL – 7575 CA Oldenzaal Netherlands

The shipping costs of the tyres that need to be repaired are for your own account.

You need to deliver the old tread separately (so not glued on the old casing). If you cannot do this, you can still send us the whole tread and we try to separate the tread for you. If the tread tears or becomes useless, we don’t take any responsibility for this. In that case, we will contact you and suggest you use one of the used treads of our stock for a new casing if these are available. If we need to separate the tread, we kindly ask you to pay €3,00 (VAT not included) for it because it asks a lot of work.

How to pull off the tread from the old casing?

1. Put the tyre for more than 3 hours in a room with a temperature of +/- 20 ˚C, so that it becomes really supple.

2. Pull off the side of the tread with your nail over +/- 0,5 cm.

3. Take the loose part and pull it further off the casing over +/- 5 cm

4. Push with your thumb carefully under the tread so that your thumb arrives at the other side of the tread.

5. Put the tread over your thumb and pull it off the casing with parts of 1-2 cm until the casing is totally off.

6. Remove the loose parts of the glue. Don't use any aggressive or chemical materials to remove the glue off the tread, otherwise the tread cannot be used again !!

Base tape

If the casing, tread, and inner tube of the tyre are still in good condition, but the base tape is damaged (for example, cracked during the removal of the tyre from the rim), it is possible to repair it. We offer this repair for a price of €5,25 (VAT not included) per tyre.

If during the evaluation of the sent tyre, we come to the conclusion that other repairs are necessary for addition to replacing the base tape, we will contact you by e-mail and discuss the possible options and additional prices.

If you choose this option you can send your old tyre, together with a small letter (which contains your name, address, phone number and e-mail address and the width of the base tape you prefer) to the following address:

A. Dugast Textielstraat 46 NL – 7575 CA Oldenzaal Netherlands

The shipping costs of the tyres that need to be repaired are for your own account.

Inner tube

We offer various repairs for our inner tubes, ranging from a repair of the old inner tube to replacing the broken inner tube with a new one. The inner tube must be examined in order to carry out the repair (think of the number of holes and the damage to the inner tube). At the moment the flat tyre is sent to us, one of our employees will evaluate the tyre and the necessary repair will be communicated via e-mail before it is carried out.

The possible repairs we offer regarding the tyre inner tube are:

  • New inner tube

When the damage to the inner tube is so extreme that patching is no longer possible, we offer the option to replace the inner tube. Replacing an inner tube costs €16,80 (VAT not included).

  • Repair of your inner tube

If it is possible to patch the inner tube, you can opt for this repair. The costs for this repair are €5,78 (VAT not included).

  • Replace valve

If the inner tube is not punctured, but the air is escaping from the valve, it is also possible to replace the valve. Replacing the valve costs €5,78 (VAT not included).

If you choose a reparation of the inner tube you can send your old tyre, together with a small letter (which contains your name, address, phone number and e-mail address and a note that a repair of the inner tube is necessary) to the following address:

A. Dugast Textielstraat 46 NL – 7575 CA Oldenzaal Netherlands
